Technical challenges, part II
Since Jan 2022, I have waded back into the digital audio workstation (DAW), Pro Tools, by taking a music mixing class at the local community college. Over five years after the first Pro Tools class in music production (Aug to Dec 2016), this new class covers the details of how to mix songs. I have never felt so lost before inside a classroom. I have completely forgotten how to use Pro Tools, which has become more complicated and less user friendly in the interim. For my final exam, I remix a classic rock song.
My earlier remix had too much reverb. Prof. DB helps me figure out how to route the signals, volumes, for precise control of reverb. This remix was finished in four to five hours in class. I don’t have a current version of Pro Tools any more; so I can’t work on the mix from home. But this keeps me from obsessing over mixing, adjusting plug-ins, which is probably for the best.
